Dipslides
C10-1
The diagnostic slide has replaced the lengthy traditional method of testing and is a safe, cost effective, reliable and fast indicator of the presence of bacteria. Supplied sterile, the slide can
be used on site where sampling takes just a few seconds. It is then replaced in the tube and incubated for 24-48 hours. The resulting markings are compared to a chart so that the level of
bacteria growth can be ascertained. If bacteria are present, samples can be sent to a laboratory for identification.

BT2: Nutrient Agar with TTC. Most colonies show up as red spots. For general use in a
wide variety of areas.
PC2: Plate count agar. A good general growth medium particularly useful for Dairy
products.
BTM2: Nutrient with TTC and Malt Extract agar. A growth medium for yeasts and moulds
which suppresses bacterial growth.
RBS: Nutrient with TTC and Rose Bengal chloramphenicol agar.
A selective agar for yeasts and moulds. However the antibiotic content can cause
interference with the total count.
PO: Plate count agar and OGYE agar. OGYE is a selective agar using Oxytetracycline.
Should not be incubated at temperatures above 25°C. Suitable for food microbiology.
Includes neutralizers for most common germicides.
BRB2: Double Rose Bengal for yeasts and moulds only. It is taken up by small colonies
which show as pink dots and are easy to count.
SC2: A plate count agar/MacConkey No 3. A coliform specific medium that suppresses all
non coliform bacteria. The plate count agar gives a general count of viable organisms.
SCN: The same as SC2 but including neutralizers for most common germicides. Improves
the recovery of sub lethally damaged organisms, which could cause problems if left, but
which do not normally show up on culture plates because traces of disinfectant have been
transferred. Most useful for assessing the effectiveness of cleaning procedures.
Surface Sampling
1 Remove contact slide from its tube and press against the surface to be tested
2 Turn the contact slide over and repeat the procedure with the second side. Replace the
slide in the tube and incubate for 24-48 hours
3 At the end of the incubation period, read the results against the chart
Fluid Sampling
1 Remove contact slide from its tube and immerse in the fluid for about 10 seconds
2 Remove from the fluid and allow to drain for a few seconds. Replace slide in the tube
and incubate for 24-48 hours
3 At the end of the incubation period, read the results against the chart
